When editing vendor links, especially those for DellaJane, please take the time to scroll down the page and make sure the pattern is no longer available. I cannot link to a specific listing, so link to the top of the page. You have been deleting valid links for me, please slow down the delete key! THanks, alice
?? "Add a photo to the gallery by clicking the modify button below." That's what's on the template... I may have C&P'd from older wording on a couple before I knew the template was there. I didn't do a bunch the other way, did I? And I don't recall changing wording that was already there - just C&Ping for the ones I added...
You did change the wording on several existing pattern pages (example taken from Simplicity 8015) from:
[insert your photos of this pattern made up] ... which is older but at least expresses the reason for the Gallery and what to do to: 'Add a photo to the gallery by clicking the "modify" button below.
hat one is obsolete, does not include any Gallery coding (the template does), and that button no longer exists.
These changes were made after you were aware of template, per our conversations. Pages keep a history of changes made from their inception...
Sorry for the delay in response - I took a phone call & then had a snack.
I changed Simplicity 8015 to read "insert your photos of this pattern made up"? Sheesh, I'm sorry. I'm aware that pages keep the history, and that you can see it all.
I had trouble with the template & reverted to C&Ping to keep cohesive (instead of typing it out). I had several windows open & must've switched at some point. Again, I'm sorry. :/
We've had a sick little one, and our days & nights have been mixed up for almost a week now. I was working tired, and guess I got sloppy. :/
I *think* I have the template figured out now. You were right about not being able to add a pic, and I couldn't figure out how to toggle to the other editor. Computer stuff isn't my forte (I guess you can tell). :/ Sorry to add to your frustration while you're feeling under the weather yourself. :(
No - not the flu, a UTI...she's almost 4, and was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease as a baby, so every UTI is a big deal. :P I think we're winning this one more quickly than the last one, but can't breathe a sigh of relief just yet. :/
I thought of another possible uh-oh. Since I wasn't using the template, but rather the "add a page" button at the top right corner of the pages, and C&Ping the Gallery wording...will those pages be missing that coding as well, making my copied phrase senseless? Is the coding only on the template?
I'm heading off to nap for a while, but I'll check back here before adding anything - and like I said I think I've got the template figured out now.
Ok - I think I'm getting the hang of it. I'm totally new to Wikia and I was struggling w/the pictures most of all. I tried to make my new pages look like the other ones - comparing side by side. Guess I didn't quite get it. Thanks for your patience. I'm really impressed with the site & excited to be here. :) I can't even imagine the amount of time it takes to keep nearly 100,000 pages uniform. You guys are doing an EXCELLENT job! :)
One question - I've looked on the help pages & haven't found the answer. If someone has a pattern on their wishlist how does one find them to message them?
One small note. I did read that about page several times before adding/editing anything. I'm not seeing anything there or in the FAQ's about formatting/editing - only general helps, nothing specific to the Vintage Patterns Wikia. I don't know if I'm missing it, or it's just not very clear - but thanks so much for reaching out to me. I appreciate it. And I appreciate the continuity too. :)
So it's large picture, description of pattern, & copyright directly under it in regular text, followed by a more detailed description if desired, also in regular text, and then followed by the headers with lines for the other 4 areas (links, sources, gallery, wishlist)?
And is it acceptable to delete dead or sold links from the sources section if I come across them, or are only the owners of those stores supposed to do that?
There is a pre-formatted template for users.. Please start there when creating a new page.
You will find it on the Home page under the big Create button.
If you are in visual editor, the sample image link may not let you change it. Ignore it and upload your picture separately, or switch to the classic editor.
While owners of the links are supposed to delete them, many are not diligent about this. It is acceptable to remove sold and clearly expired links. Just be careful with on hold and vacation type unavailbilities, as well as temporary server outages, which can happen anywhere. When in doubt, don't delete.
Ok thanks! All very helpful...I'll go look for the template. With a project like this uniformity isn't boring, it's important for continuity & gives the whole site a professional, well-maintained look. I'm happy to conform. :D Sorry about the flu, hope you're feeling better soon!
