Gail Garber Designs; ©1990; Nativity (Nacimientos). 21" x 32" quilted wall hanging. The Pueblo Indians are well-known for their distinctive pottery figurines. Indian artists began making Nativity sets (Nacimientos) in the 1960s using the native clays gathered from Mother Earth. This Nativity, designed by Gail Garber, was inspired by the figurative pottery of Helen Cordero, of Cochiti Pueblo, maker of the first Storyteller in 1964. The people always have their eyes closed and mouths open. "They do much praying and thinking."
