Godey's Lady's Book: Mantle, August 1855

Godey's Lady's Book: Mantle, August 1855, page 161, pattern on same page

This beautiful mantle may be made of any light material. The one from which our engraving is taken was made of light pink watered silk, the vandykes edged with narrow black velvet, with small black buttons at the point of each vandyke; lined with white silk, with rich deep worked white lace. The working pattern we give is drawn accurately in inches, A being the upper part of the mantle, and B the lower part, the mark X being the parts at which they join. Part B being gathered into the width of A, there is no fasteneing up the front; it is left entirely open, and tied at the neck with a bow of pink and white ribbons with very long ends, the same color of silk.
