People's Home Journal was a general interest magazine, which was published from 1885-1929.  The magazine sold mail order sewing patterns and embroidery transfers via a separate publication called The Home Dressmaker and Needlework Instructor.  This was basically a catalog which featured sewing and alteration lessons, home decor suggestions, embroidery stitches and other useful and crafty ideas.
