Bestway D.1,883; ca. 1950s; Designed in Paris by Balmain for Woman's Illustrated - Two-Way Evening Dress and Cape-Stole. The strapless bodice of the evening dress is supported by a corselet foundation seamed to closely fit the figure, and boned to hold it to shape. The berthe-collar is a separate item and fastens beneath the centre point of the bodice. The skirt is pleated in front but closely gathered at the back to a low waist-line. The fastening is by means of a lacing at centre back. The cape-stole is made from two straight lengths of material, for which measurements only are given.
